Is it possible to earn while Learning ?

International students are only allowed to work for a part-time job if their institution is listed under both- Official list of UKVI Sponsor list and list of ‘Recognised Bodies’.

Students who have applied for a full time undergraduate and postgraduate course are qualified to work while studying. The student is only allowed to work for 20 hours a week and full time during scheduled holidays.

UK has a National Minimum Wage (NMW) where, the employer must pay the student accordingly (as of 2017):

  • If the student is between the age of 18 and 20 the NMW is 5.30 Pounds per hour
  • If the student is 21 and above, the NMW is 6.70 Pounds per hour

International students are only allowed to stay in UK for a period of 4 months after the completion of their degree to search for employment. So as soon as a student graduate he/she must switch to a work related visa to be able to extend their stay.

The new law suggests that the International student must secure a job with a salary of at least 20,800 Pounds a year. This entitles the student to apply for Tier 2 Visa which is valid only for specific job and employer. This visa is valid for 5 years.

One can apply for Permanent Residence in UK after living for 5 years continuously.
